I recently attended their seminar in Huntington, WV. I thought it
was very well organized and very informative. It was geared toward those
who had a little computer experience and included hands on work in small
groups of four or five.
The program covered several areas, giving students very practical
information and experience. Major components were identified as students
probed the computer. Students removed and reinstalled various components.
Common shareware and Microsoft diagnostic programs were discussed,
demonstrated (with students following at their stations), and the advantages
of each noted. A shareware utility disk was provided to each student. At
one point on the second day, students had their computers sabotaged (sp) and
were forced to repair software and hardware problems. Questions were
answered fully and courteously. The instructor was very knowledgeable and
did not read from the study guide. She took some of the sections out of
order because she felt it was more productive and more easily understood.
I sat next to a gentleman much more experienced than I and did not
hear one complaint. He had travelled from the Columbus, Ohio area for the
seminar and was there both days. No one that I heard complained about the
content.
The greatest problem was the lack of time to cover some of the later
topics in the course outline, such as networking components. One complaint
I really had was the book promoted as the best available on the subject was
available at the seminar, but at full price! I went back to my library and
ordered it at our usual discount.
Upon returning to work, I was able to put several things to
immediate use. I would not hesitate to recommend the program for one or two
staff members and have them return to share what they learned.
