Jeffrey Osier called and said that he and Brendan's family visited
several times today. Brendan is semi-conscious most of the time rather
than in a coma. he is recognizing voices, music, and faces, altho the
surgery (he was operated on 3 times to relieve pressure on the brain)
has left him with speech recognition problems (and apparently the trauma
to the head was largely in the speech and language part of his brain).

he's restless and irritable, all of which my friends in nursing say are
good signs. And, as one of them said, "The fact that his pelvis broke
and absorbed the shock, preventing internal injuries, means his body
was working the way it's supposed to."

They're moving him from the ICU to a regular room sometime tonight or
early tomorrow.

Doctors say that in a few weeks they can more fully assess how much
brain damage has been done, both because of the swelling of the brain and
from the car accident itself. They can start setting the bones in his
face (almost every bone in the face was broken, as well as his pelvis)
as soon as the swelling goes down.

Current plans are to move him to Boston later to begin rehab therapy
and extensive plastic surgery.

Altho Cygnus plans to continue him on salary and he luckily had signed up
for health insurance, there will be medical expenses. We're looking at the
best way to set up such a fund in the next day or so.

As soon as I know more, I'll let you know!
