[ILL-L] renewals - if we mean no, shouldn't we say no?

We renew all books/videos unless there's someone else waiting to use it...I
try to contact the borrower if someone else wants to use the book so there
are no surprises when the due date rolls around & then I say "no"...BUT
sometimes I get swamped & I forget to extend that courtesy.

All our DVD's are non-renewable, but the borrower is notified up front about
that when we send them out.

It's frustrating when our patrons are slow returning something for which the
lender has rejected a renewal...I try to contact the lender to let them know
we ARE trying to recall the book & the efforts we are making. Again,
sometimes, I am swamped & I forget to tell the lender WHY we're still
hanging on to a book that was refused a renewal.

Most of us working in ILL know what it's like to have days when we feel
overwhelmed. I appreciate the kind notes counterparts elsewhere send my way
& the patience others have with me when I make a mistake. I have a warm
fuzzy e-file to save these affirming remarks from strangers (for when I need
some strokes).
