[ILL-L] renewals - if we mean no, shouldn't we say no?

I have on occasion asked for a renewal from an "no renewal" site - but
there have to be extenuating circumstances, such as the book getting
misrouted in shipping and arriving with only three days for the patron
to use the item. In that case, I try to call and explain.

But I have to say, that big red stamp "No Renewals" is helpful!

Linda,

It is frustrating. But how about when we send out our books with a big
red stamp that says NO RENEWAL and they request a renewal? It is such a
waste of time and when we say no they still keep the book out.

Over the past couple of months, I have noticed that when I request
renewals via OCLC, several libraries have responded "Renewal OK" - but
the new due date is the same as the old due date.

Is this a problem with some feature of WorldCat Resource Sharing, or is
it just a way to get out of saying "No Renewal"?

If we aren't able to renew items, we should be straightforward about it
and just say no. It is frustrating to find a patron on the Renewal OK
list, only to find the due date is the same.
