If you already have your ILL articles in PDF you should not have to
re-scan the articles (I have Adobe Reader 9). Just go to the "document"
tab in your Adobe PDF file and then select "OCR Text Recognition" and
"Recognize Text Using OCR".

We have had students that are reading impaired and they had reader
software to read the articles to them. Another reason to request an
article with OCR is so one could copy and paste data for quotes. The
full version of Adobe acrobat has OCR capabilities built into it. You
could re-scan ILL articles with OCR. The problem being you would need
to “clean up” the document in Microsoft Word as the OCR can mis-scan
characters.

Why would a patron need OCR for an ILL article? As far as I know, we’ve
never had that request.

How are your libraries handling requests from patrons who need OCR
(optical character recognition) for their articles? Are you offering it
at all? Do you offer it only if the patron requests it? Have you never
heard about it?
