Low-tech it might be, but we do the same thing. Had not thought about the
bold, but that will save a few clicks in FY10. As Arthur says, it works for
those of us that borrow only a few books.  We really do need a due date.

I have a very low-tech solution.  I keep track of ILLs on a spreadfsheet,
which I sort to keep track of due dates (and many other things, including
the "rule of 5").  If a library says "No renewals," I type that it in the
note column, and also boldface the due date so I know we can't renew the
book.  (I also boldface the due date when we've renewed the book, so when I
sort due dates, I know whether or not we can request renewal.)

 

This works for us, but we usually borrow about 800 items a year.  If you
borrow 800 a day, I can see that might be a problem.

Is there a way to auto-deflect renewals to say "no", for non-renewals
libraries?  Either in worldcat or whatever other system you are using?

I rarely check paperwork that's stamped no renewals (sorry) before trying to
renew something.  I try to remember to check the paperwork but don't always
remember.  If I get a "no" back, I just tell that to the patron.  I don't
know how large libraries are expected to check paperwork before every single
renewal.
