[ILL-L] Thank You Notes

Topeka/Shawnee County Public Library has a neat, little label with a picture
of their library and a little thank you message that they apply to the
paperwork. That way you don't have to deal with the extra piece of paper.
Since I am originally from Topeka, it is nice to see that the library from
which I first borrowed books has such an innovative way of saying thank you.

Aaron,
Drink the Kool-Aid!
Let go of mass produced "thank you" notes. Please don't burden staff here
with one more piece of paper to deal with. We handles thousands of returns
every year and don't want the added work.

You raise an interesting issue - especially since I am about to run out of
our thank you slips.
What is the general consensus? Do you, the lending library, feel
sufficiently thanked (short of a handwritten note penned by a worshipful
patron) just by the book being returned with any paperwork you sent with it?
We have tasteful, little thank you slips I always insert into books loaned
to us, but if the consensus is that they are superfluous I will happily stop
using them as I have other things to do than stand at the paper cutter later
this week and make a new batch of them.

So right.
After we get rid of the thank you slips, especially those in color, let's
get rid of anything the lender has attached to the book. Off with the label
you use placed on the front of our book We do not want to know the name of
your patron, in Tennessee this violates patron confidentiality laws.
Books, like camp grounds, should be left cleaner than you found them.

> Oh I'm such a Scrouge, I'll admit it. But, please do not send us little
mass produced "thank you" notes for our lending activity. They are
meaningless to me. When I get those things I am annoyed because it's one
more action I have to take on that transaction--dispose of it.
