Marie,

Thank you for the willing response. Yes we have someone who has already committed to the sending us what we need which will tide us over until we get a new batch from BCR.

Laura,
Has anyone responded? If not, we're willing to send you the four, but be aware that we paid BCR $12 per voucher, so the total will be $48 and not the $10.83 that you'd pay using today's official exchange rate. Just let us know if you're still in the market.

Between February 1 and February 11 WorldCat Resource Sharing and OCLC
ILLiad experienced some issues that resulted in incorrect processing of
a number of transactions. This includes the possibility that borrowing
institutions received material not meant for their users. If your
library incorrectly incurred lending charges, please contact OCLC to
request an appropriate credit.

You may either click on the link below and submit the form, or contact
OCLC Customer Support (1-800-848-5800 or support at oclc.org). An OCLC
representative will respond to your request for credit within 10 days to
confirm the credit amount and let you know when you can expect it to
appear on your OCLC invoice.

We plan to make this form available until April 15 to allow adequate
time for you to review your February and March usage statistics.

Hello,

I am looking at reorganizing some of the departments in our library. Can
you tell me what department you are considered part of--Circulation/Access
Services, Reference/Adult Services or Technical Services?

Thank you for your help and time.

Circulation Services is our new name because Loan Services sounds like a bank, Technical Services sounds like IT, Reference/Adult services sounds too old world and Access Services is too no descript.

Circulation Services combines circulation, interlibrary loans, space planning, and reserves for our academic library.

We are now part of technical services and this department has made the
rounds over the years

When I first joined this library ILL was in reference

It then moved to be part of Access Services

Now it is joined with Reserves processing and is part of Technical
services

At our library, InterLibrary Lending falls in the Access Services department
along with receiving of periodicals, book keeping (accounting not
preservation), and NC Document receiving. Kind of a hodgepodge of tasks
lumped together. I coordinate with other departments in the library so
Access Services here is more of dealing with staff than patrons.

At Dallas Seminary we lump reference, interlibrary loan, and circulation under Public Services now. When circulation and reference were separate departments, we had ILL under reference. The departmental changes came with staff changes.

At GAC we're part of the Circulation Department. However, we do work with all the departments sooner or later each week.

At the Cumberland County Public Library, Fayetteville, NC we have two staff members in the Ref/IS department process the ordering / borrowing of ILLs and two staff members in the Circ department tend to the lending aspect. Once a requested ILL is received it automatically goes to Circ for processing. Circ also handles the returning of materials.

We're under the supervision of POP-FIC at the Main Library, which used
to also oversee CIRC. Our former Support Services head felt like he
should have had us under his wing. ILL is neither fish nor fowl. We're
considered public service in some contexts, but considered non-public
service in other contexts because "we don't have a 'public desk'". Our
public desk is our e-mailer, our telephone, and -on occasion- we are the
mobile desk talking face to face with customers. At one time we were
directly under the head of the Main Library; at another, we were part of
a reference department. We serve the public systemwide but are
headquartered at Main because everyone has to be somewhere. <sigh>

I have a patron who is looking for a recorded version (any format) of the song "Come with Me to Bethlehem". The song was written by Harold Kafer around 1973. I can find the words and music at Schirmer's but so far no recordings. My patron said he heard it on the radio several years ago, so somebody somewhere must have it. (??) He has tried itunes, Rhapsody, Google, Barnes & Noble, Borders and even contacted Harold Kafer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have found several references to these two titles but no libraries that may be holding them. any information will be greatly appreciated, please answer off-list.

The titles are:

At GLG, I guess ILL is part of Reference, since I'm a reference librarian (actually, I'm the entire Reference staff, not to mention duties in BI, collection development, library liaison, and the ever-popular "additional tasks as assigned").

Texas A&M University's ILL stands as a single department, reporting directly to the Associate Dean who oversees both public and technical services. In May, we will group our Circulation/Reserve/Media services with Reference. But, the administration decides to leave ILL by itself as a single unit. We put ILL books to our circulation desks, so we no longer need to have a public desk to serve our customers, we communicate with our customers via phone or email whenever needed.

>>> "Thompson, Cynthia Marie" <thompsoncym at umkc.edu> 3/24/2009 3:42 PM >>>

ILL is its own department, a part of the public services division (the other departments are reference, access services, and music/media).

I think technically we're under the umbrella of Public Services, which
covers reference and circulation, but on a practical level - borrowing is
under reference, and lending is under circ.
