We have received a few things that are opened. So far we have been
fortunate that nothing has been lost or damaged. I was responsible for
book repair before coming to ILL so I am more strict about how things
are packaged before we send them out. As much as possible we use boxes
rather than jiffy bags or padded envelopes. In the two years I have
worked ILL I don't believe we have ever had to pay for an item that was
damaged in the mail.

Subject: [ILL-L] Damaged/Lost Materials in US Mail
Recently it seems we have noticed an increased amount of items sent in
the US mail that are either damaged in shipping or the packages have
been torn open and the material is lost. Have other institutions
noticed an increase regarding this issue? Currently we only insure a
portion of our packages so we are paying for the lost/damaged materials
in accordance with the ALA Interlibrary Loan Code. I am just curious,
are others experiencing this?
