Subject: [ILL-L] ILL staff as missing materials detectives
ILL folk-
In your institutions do you or your staff get the additional
responsibility
to track down and/or report 'missing items'?
Some of my ILL requests are initiated by readers who fail to locate
items in the local catalog and subsequently are referred to ILL by
other staff. I usually try to followup and find our 'missing' item
before
I attempt to borrow it. If I too cannot locate it, I will ask that the
branch
manager be notified and mark it missing in the OPAC or possibly
re-order.
If its at the headquarters branch where I am located I will print a bib
record and give it to my boss, the reference head.
Please offer your experience and the official policy or procedures for
handling this universal problem?
