[ILL-L] Question on reciprocal charging policies

We actually do charge what fee-based lenders charge us. If you are in
the SL#N group, we don't charge you for loans. If you are in the S06,
LVIS, or FLIN group, we -of course- don't charge you for copies or
loans. For example, if Auburn University at Montgomery were to ask us
for a copy, we'd charge them the same rate (5.00 for 3-50 Pages ) they'd
charge us; because they are in the SL#N group, though, we wouldn't
charge them for a loan, because they aren't supposed to charge us as
fellow members. We have their costs marked in their ILLiad record.
It can get very confusing, though. There are members of the SL#N group
according the Policies Directory that have conditionaled loan requests
with a list of their charges, though as fellow members that shouldn't
have been a factor. In one case, the library was no longer a SL#N group
member but neglected to tell SOLINET and didn't bother to have their
Directory record changed. In most cases, when there are many other
lenders, we just decline the condition and go on, though it leaves a bad
taste in our mouth since we don't charge them. If they are the sole
lender or one of a few, I'll contact them about it. We have our
affiliations prominently displayed, so I'm not sure why they overlook
them and try to charge us.

Subject: [ILL-L] Question on reciprocal charging policies
Recently, I've come across several lending policies that state "We
charge what you charge" but then go on to say "If you charge us, we
charge x amount" ("X amount" is almost always $10.00 or more.) Since my
library only charges $5.00 to non-consortial/non RA libraries, I can
never figure out what we are going to be charged. It makes it very
difficult to place these libraries in my custom holdings groups. Should
I simply assume that we will be charged the stated amount, even though
we charge less?
