[ILL-L] Packaging for mailing A/V

It would be great if everyone would agree to send AV in boxes, so that we could all be recycling them. I know our patrons really appreciate being able to borrow AV materials that we don't own. The cost of purchasing boxes, plus staff time hunting around for boxes when we're short could be reduced if more libraries sent AV in boxes.

We send a lot of AV materials. We always ask for them to be sent back in boxes. We buy boxes and try to recycle.

Please do not send AV items in bubble wrap mailers. They do get damaged in bubble wrap mailers. Boxes are much better.

As a lender of AV materials, please send all items back in boxes. If we start getting damaged materials because of poor packaging, I am concerned that the powers that be may say no more AV lending.

We have seen our fair share of damage with bubble bags and non-corrugated cardboard boxes. Plastic pieces everywhere. I'm surprised others haven't run into this problem. It does get frustrating at times. But we do spend a lot on the corrugated boxes, too. I just don't want to be responsible for returning damaged A/V, so we continue to buy the boxes. If more libraries did that, we could just recycle them as we do the bubble bags. :)

Greetings all,

We have been mailing all outgoing DVDs, CDs, audio CDs, and videos in boxes (those we're lending and the returns from those we've borrowed). To date, we haven't regularly purchased boxes for mailing, as they don't usually come back to us for re-use, and it gets expensive. However, we often run out of a supply of boxes. For those of you who don't box all mailed A/V, do you find things are getting damaged en route? I'm contemplating just switching to bubble wrap envelopes for the CDs and DVDs, but I don't want to end up dealing with an increase in damaged goods and replacement fees. How's it all working for you?

Thanks,

Cyndi
KNJ
