"We do not band the materials we lend. Our barcodes identify the material as ours, and older items also have property stamps. We include a copy of the paperwork and return labels with material we loan."

This is what I have started doing starting this summer, to see how it goes during our slower time. We used to band all our lending books.

Now, I include the paperwork (we don't keep paperwork for lending on file on our end) and a mailing label attached to it. On the paperwork we also have a sticker that says "please return this paperwork with item" or something to that effect.

I stopped banding books because other libraries either band over it or use a post it label, so I found it to be a waste of paper. So far libraries have been returning materials with the paperwork, thank you for that! If we do this we will be able to cut our lending paper usage in half, which I think is great.

Greetings from Dallas and Happy Friday!

I have a couple of questions. When you loan a book, how do you mark that it's yours? We put a band of yellow around our books, with the ILL information, due date, etc.
If this book was loaned to you, would you put your own band around the cover of the book? How do you identify this book as a loaned ILL item?

When you loan a book, do you band it? If not, how do you mark it as belonging to your library? Do you just depend on the loan slip to provide all the information?

Oh, one more thing. Do you provide a return address label with your book? I send out return labels, but it seems not many libraries actually use them.

My supervisor wants to make changes in our identification process, so your input would be helpful. You can e-mail me off line if you want.

Thanks.

Sally
