[ILL-L] Custom groups in Policies Directory

Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone has heard anything from OCLC regarding the ability to create custom groups in the Policies Directory? Since deflections became available, I have been emailing folks at OCLC and also talking with OCLC representatives at various meetings about this enhancement request, but so far have heard nothing.

Let me give some background info: we (EMU) have several individual reciprocal agreements with various libraries. These agreements are not related to an "official" group recognized by OCLC. Our problem is that we cannot use deflections because we need make exceptions to deflections based on our reciprocal agreements. As the Policies Directory is set up now, the only way to make exceptions to deflections is by group, but the only groups allowed are profiled groups, or other OCLC-recognized groups.

So, what we'd like is to be able to set up our own Reciprocal Group (i.e. create a group and add symbols to the group), then we could make deflection rules and except this reciprocal group. Another possibility would be to be able to just add individual library symbols to the deflection exception list, but this would be more time consuming.

I can envision other ways for this enhancement to be used, too. For example, libraries that don't use ILLiad and don't have the ability to block libraries could create a "Blocked Libraries" group to deflect requests. That's just one idea-I'm sure there are many others.

Do others on this list think this enhancement would be useful?

Thanks,
Kathy
