This is a topic that impacts us all and really deserves a thorough discussion. I get the list in digest form so always am running a day behind in these discussions. So....
I'd like to hear from some of you regarding how your lending folks manage or otherwise stay informed about publisher's contracts that limit the use of e-journals to fill ILL. The various embargo periods are one aspect of this. Others prohibit or require that the PDF available through an e-journal be printed to fill an ILL request.
We have an ongoing discussion in our office about the legitimacy emailing PDFs generated through subscriptions to electronic journals. We get a steady stream of these from many libraries but, in spite of the paper involved and gross inefficiency, we print rather than forward on the original PDF. What's the common wisdom on this??
