[ILL-L] New international ILL rates for HLS, CLS, MCS, HMY

Dear Colleagues,

Due to the increased cost of shipping due to higher fuel prices, the
libraries of the Harvard College Library -- including Widener Library (OCLC:
HLS), Cabot Science Library (OCLC: CLS, MCS), and Harvard-Yenching Library
(OCLC: HMY) -- will be raising the fee for book loans to international
locations through interlibrary loan.

Effective March 1, 2009, the international loan fee will be $45.
Additionally, fees for international locations that have average FedEx
shipping charges over $28 will increase to cover those costs.  Libraries
from these locations will be asked to agree to pay all shipping costs based
on the estimated FedEx international rate before any materials are shipped.


We appreciate our lending business with the international interlibrary loan
community, and regret any inconvenience that this price increase may
entail.  The Harvard College Library however is committed to sharing its
resources with the global research community, and we hope that our new fees
will allow us to continue to do so even during these trying economic times.
