[ILL-L] RE: College of Santa Fe closing/Downsizing

I'm so sorry and concerned to hear about all this.  Please keep us posted about any developments,
I hope a better solution comes to light for College of Santa Fe.  I'm also always distressed when we lose knowledgeable ILL staffers.  ILL is often given little attention in library school coursework; I know I got the lion's share of my training on the job and it took a while before I felt halfway competent when I was moved to this job.  ILL expertise is so undervalued; it's often not recognized that when you have an ILL librarian/staffer, you also have a computer guru of sorts, a diplomat, a bill collector,  a  detective, a mind reader, an explorer, a translator, etc all in one person,  Not everyone can do the job.

I am very sad to hear about the College of Santa Fe. I grew up in northern New Mexico and am familiar with this very wonderful institution. My best to you and the rest of the staff at CSF. I can sympathize with you since my employer, Highline Community College,  is laying off people and I am one of them; but at least they are staying open.

ILL Colleagues,

 

It is my sad duty to report that the College of Santa Fe, founded in 1859, will cease to exist at the end of our Spring semester.  Whether we will be resurrected as a state school remains to be seen.

 

In order to make it until May, the College has been forced to implement drastic measures, including a 25% pay cut for all faculty and staff.  

 

Another consequence is that I have to stop lending altogether.  I have enjoyed sharing our collection with you all so much, and I take no relish in being forced to stop.

 

Please pray for us.
