[ILL-L] Have you suspended use of Ariel
successfully(orunsuccessfully)?

Ariel (3.4) for all intents and purposes died for us back in 2005.
Fisrts sending went, then receiving. We took our Ariel data off our
Policy statement and put notices where we could. We have an ancient
scanner. We have a small staff so shrinking each 11 X 17 copy from an
oversized periodical to 8.5 X 11 so we can scan it into a pdf file to
send isn't cost effective given our workload. It's quicker to snail
mail it. We have access to Odyssey but would have the same problem with
staff time.

Please send replies to the list as we may also be losing Ariel very soon
as well, and would love to get your input, too.
Thanks!

We are considering suspending use of Ariel for borrowing and lending.
Our Ariel computer is displaying the 'blue screen of death' for the 3rd
time and may need the hard drive replaced so Ariel would need to be
re-installed. Given that it took nearly 3 months last time to get it
functioning (almost) properly and it still isn't supported by Infotrieve
-because the scanner isn't compatible- I am pondering reinstalling the
program at all. We use Odyssey for 2/3 of our requests and we have the
capabilities to send articles via FTP. We currently average about 20
Ariels rec'd a day and 5 shipped.
I would like to hear from libraries that have suspended Ariel. What was
your success? How did you do it?
Thanks.
