[ILL-L] requests for the same item

We too would recommend that her department purchase it. I should think that copying a DVD, as your faculty member suggests, would raise ethical and copyright issues.
My usual policy is to order a book on ILL a second time but not more often (unless there are special circumstances; e.g., if one library only allows one week use with no renewal).
I too have had a professor wanting something to keep something we got on ILL for a year. In that case, we buy it if it's for a class; if the professor wants it for research, s/he should consider purchasing it. (We're a small liberal arts college, with a limited library budget that I suspect will be smaller next year; faculty are encouraged but not required to do research, so our collection development policy is that we purchase materials for the library for undergraduate use, not for faculty research. If faculty want books for their research, we encourage them to use ILL--but preferably not for a year. )

Subject: [ILL-L] requests for the same item
We have a faculty member that has requested the same DVD for the second time in less than a year. This time she stated that we should just make copies because she will probably need it every year. I cannot find anything concerning how many times a person can request the same item. It seems to violate the spirit of the purpose of Interlibrary Loan, at a minimum, even if there is not regulation against it. We have suggested that she request the department include it in their book order.
Does anyone know of any regulation concerning this? How would your department deal with it?
