[ILL-L] OCLC Communicating

[OCLC Resource Sharing]

When we have installs with expected changes to WorldCat Resource
Sharing, ILLiad or the Policies Directory we do our best to post
pre-install announcements. However, in the example of the
hardware/software changes that took place this past weekend there was no
anticipated impact on resource sharing. Only after the hardware/software
changes took place was an impact seen on our systems. In this case,
resource sharing was pointing to new hardware for various pieces of
functionality that was clearly not powerful enough. Rather than roll out
the hardware/software changes that affected resource sharing as well as
OCLC Product Services Web, we installed additional hardware to meet the
demands resource sharing was putting on the systems.

On another note, the ISO button has been there for the last 18 months or
so, but it should only appear for users who are profiled for ISO ILL via
OCLC. The majority of these users are not using either WorldCat Resource
Sharing or ILLiad as their front end, they're using a third-party
system. The de-ISO button only appears for them in case they need to
troubleshoot ISO activity via WorldCat Resource Sharing. I hope that
makes sense! In other words, the 'new' button actually appeared by
mistake, thus there was no notification.

I hope this helps clarify things. We will certainly do our best to keep
our users informed.

Thanks for the communication.  I can certainly understand your time
constraints these days!

On a related note:
Is there a reason why OCLC can't communicate to us what changes are
being made, what changes are scheduled to be made, etc. - this would
include any behind the scenes changes that would affect WRS, ILLiad,
etc.   It is quite frustrating that all of us folks in ILL-land are told
nothing about the changes that are being made to WRS, ILLiad, etc. - an
example is the recent ISO interface - and subscribing to OCLC-Sharing-L
at does not inform us of these changes.

Again - an example would be a posting to the listserv stating that you
folks had made changes to the WRS interface that now includes a new
button that says something like "ISO..." and informing us as to the
reason why the changes were made.

Thanks for all your very hard work, time and effort on our behalf - and
here's to hearing much more in the future about the particulars of how
that work affects us!

There have indeed been a number of problems this week and as of 8:00
this morning we believe they have all been chased down and resolved. The
problems were due to some behind the scenes hardware and software
changes that took place over the weekend.

https://www3.oclc.org/app/listserv/. Sharing-l is only used for OCLC
announcements. All System Alerts are pushed out to Sharing-L
automatically as they're generated. We are working to automatically push
messages out to ILL-L, however since it's a discussion list there are
some technical hurdles.

Hello fellow ILL'ers:
	I am chagrined to realize that there was NO communication from
OCLC  
after the disruption of our work systems yesterday.  I took a chance  
this AM on downloading pending requests.  There were a few glitches  
within the communication between my Stats package and WCRS but they  
were able to be resolved.
	Why were we not informed that we could TRY AGAIN??
