[ILL-L] Lending New Materials

The New Mexico Office of the State Engineer Library has an odd
situation.  Since most items in this library were never cataloged, every
day we add new titles to OCLC and they appear in our catalog as "newly
acquired."  Our software requires a checkout and check back in to change
"newly acquired."  So, while I do have some new books, most of what is
in our catalog as "newly acquired" hasn't been newly acquired in years.
We do get new titles and I don't loan those for the first six months,
but just because a record says newly acquired in our catalog doesn't
necessarily mean it is or that I won't lend it.

Being a public library we do not lend out books that are 6 months or
newer in our catalog. But if we are last chance and the item is on the
shelf and does not have a recent check out it will get loaned on ILL.

I am new to the world of ILL and would like to know what your policies
are regarding the lending of newly acquired materials. Do you lend new
materials? What do you consider new?  Will you lend something considered
new if you are the borrowers last chance?
