Come to the ILLiad International Pre-conference on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 and get an extra dose of ILLiad, sun and fun!
This year's class offerings include something for everyone, from ILLiad newbies on up!
Choose one of the 3-hour morning sessions:
ILLiad 101: Lending
This three-hour session covers the basics of ILLiad lending processing, including searching requests, printing pick slips and shipping labels and sending articles via Odyssey. The course is designed for staff new to interlibrary loan and/or using ILLiad for daily processing.
Basic HTML and CSS for the ILLiad Web
Need to learn just enough HTML and CSS to make basic customizations to your ILLiad web pages? This workshop is combination lecture/demonstration with hands-on exercises editing ILLiad web pages during the afternoon lab in a test environment. To participate in the afternoon lab you will need to bring a laptop. We will demonstrate and test practical examples of the most common ILLiad web edits
Strategic Planning Simplified
In these times of infinite choices and finite resources, effective strategic planning is an imperative for the success of the library. Effective planning creates a shared view among stakeholders of the environment in which the library exists and much-needed focus on the specific goals set by the library. Lastly, effective planning helps library leaders prioritize and organize the strategies and tactical actions that are essential for the future success of the library. This lively and participative workshop will explore the why's, who's and what's of strategic planning.
Enjoy a scrumptious lunch (included with preconference registration) with your fellow ILLiad users (and an ocean view) followed by one of our 3-hour afternoon sessions:
ILLiad 101: Borrowing
This three-hour session covers the basics of ILLiad borrowing processing, including patron authentication, sending requests on OCLC and receiving those requests to deliver to patrons. The course is designed for staff new to interlibrary loan and/or using ILLiad for daily processing.
Web Editing Lab (Basic HTML and CSS class is a prerequisite in order to attend this class)
A continuation of the Basic HTML and CSS for the ILLiad Web morning session. Participants need to bring a laptop computer to install the free ILLiad Web Previewer for the test environment. Hands-on web editing exercises will be completed with instructor assistance.
ILLiad and Collection Development
Using some basic ILLiad tools, you can create workflows to support your acquisitions and collection development efforts.
Learn how to:
Create a Request for Purchase patron web request form and supporting routing rule
Create a routing rule to automatically move loan request items less than 2 years old to a Review for Purchase queue
Create an email routing template to forward ILLiad requests to Acquisitions for purchase consideration
Query your ILLiad database for items requested frequently or for newer items requested
Use webreports to identify most requested journal titles and call numbers and export to Excel for easier data sharing
Request via OCLC to book vendors
Also, be sure to attend the ILLiad International Conference that follows on Thursday & Friday, March 19th and 20th, 2009!
Registration deadline is Friday, February 13, 2009.
