The Workflow Toolkit is a wiki repository of ILLiad best practices, available at:
http://toolkit.idsproject.org/
This week's tip is not an ILLiad customization or workflow alteration. There are no gadgets, nor downloads. Instead, it is the core principal behind the Workflow Toolkit itself: discussion. As we're all aware, the ILLiad-L listserv has been deactivated and the ILLiad community has been forwarded to the ILLiad group at OCLC's WebJunction. Although discussion is a core feature of the WebJunction platform, it is certainly not a 1-to-1 replacement for a listserv. Social networking is a great thing, however it may not be the best way to facilitate active discussion.
Listserv technology is old, but it is still effective. In terms of disseminating the Workflow Toolkit Tips of the Week, it is much easier than using a message board. Because the discovery and sharing of best practices is driven by active discussion, I've developed the WorkflowToolkit-L listserv. The goal of the listserv is to facilitate the discussion of best practices and to serve as an outlet for the ILLiad community to provide support to its members.
To join WorkflowToolkit-L, visit:

It is not intended for posting your office closures or questions better suited for OCLC support. Rather, it is intended to carry on the supportive atmosphere of ILLiad-L.
So this week's tip is to join and actively discuss your best practices on WorkflowToolkit-L. Hopefully you'll find it another helpful resource that you can use to improve your workflows.
