[ILL-L] RE: for LVIS libraries only

We have a gmail ILL account (mountmercyill at gmail.com) AND a staff ILL
account (rclark at mtmercy.edu) ...the gmail account was necessary when our
copymachine couldn't scan & send pdf articles to my hyphenated last name
staff ILL account (which since has been corrected).
Drawbacks to gmail, that we could see, for the month (mid-July to mid- Aug.)
we used it exclusively to send ILL articles:
*will the receiving library recognize the article attachment as
legitimate OR filter it into spam & thus not get thru to the intended
recepient?
*will our own campus staff/faculty/students recognize the article
attachment as legitimate OR filter it into spam & once again not get thru to
the intended recepient?
*how professional does ILL gmail look vs. campus ILL email?
*is transparency/confidentiality a concern since gmail is a
transportation vehicle completely outside both the lender & borrower's
library servers?
Advantages to gmail:
*for some reason, my work email was not able to subscribe to this ILL
list-serve; however, our gmail ILL account got through right away & is
subscribing...there may be ILL requests which are similarly not getting
through
*incredible storage/archival space...our campus memory is limited & I
had to keep juggling where I put rec'd/sent articles in case they weren't
delivered the first time...also, I can send HUGE attachments via gmail,
while our campus server restricts the file size sent & received
We are in the process of gradually eliminating our paper ILL usage...our
ariel machine is old & it's too expensive to update, so we recently turned
primarily to using our copy machine to scan articles from journals & then
send to my work email address to forward on to the requesting library. This
reduces our carbon footprint & helps since we have no printing
budget. Copymachine scans & conversions into pdfs are a faster, more
efficient, less expensive way to send articles vs. ariel or faxing...also,
the article clarity is good.
Best wishes,
Peace,
Robyn (Clark-Bridges)
