[ILL-L] SCANNER PROBLEM

We're using Odyssey (within ILLiad) and Ariel on the same computer. Ariel
always wants sole control over the scanning software, so yes, if you have
Odyssey open and want to scan in Ariel, close Odyssey first. You do not need
to close ILLiad, if you're using Odyssey within ILLiad, just the Odyssey
scanning window.

The same holds true, to a lesser extent, the other way. Because Ariel
demands sole control over that scanner, you'll need to close Ariel before
opening Odyssey to scan. If you merely want to manipulate already scanned
documents, which program is controlling the scanner is moot, so you can just
click through the error box that Ariel displays when you open it with
another scanning program already open. I seem to recall that some people
have reported the ability to scan in Odyssey with Ariel open, provided Ariel
was opened first. My experience has been that Odyssey can't wrest control of
the scanner from Ariel.

It's a nuisance, but there it is. I don't think that any of this not playing
well with others generates registry errors, so that may well have been the
result of some auto-update process. You'd have to look at the errors to see
if you can glean any info about their origin. The tech who cleaned up the
registry might be able to help you there.

We have Ariel and Odyssey installed on the same computer.  

Question:  When we scan into Ariel, either using the flat bed or the ADF,
should we be sure and close Odyssey, and vice versa, in order to avoid
problems with the scanner?  Recently we had the problem of not being able to
scan more than one page at a time with our Automatic Document Feeder.  Our
IT cleaned up registry errors on the computer and reset the scanner.  The
ADF seems to be working fine now.

We don't know whether automatic updates from Microsoft Windows caused
registry errors or whether scanning into Odyssey while Ariel was open caused
the problem.
