[ILL-L] backdating due date

I was told that it might be a good idea if we requested renewals of
books we have borrowed a day or two before the book was actually due. It
sounded like on the computer system they might not be able to renew
something easily once it was actually overdue.

So, I've been moving the due date up one day on each book we borrow. But
it's kind of labor intensive. Do other libraries act differently on a
renewal request if the book is overdue as opposed to not yet quite due?
Thanks,
