Item-level deflection counts as an unfilled tally if a borrower puts
your symbol in the lender string. It will appear on your library's
"Resource Sharing Lender Reasons For No Report" with "Auto-Deflection:
Request Type" as the reason.

However, item-level deflection will discourage many requests from ever
having your symbol in the lender string at all. If the borrower is using
direct request, your symbol is automatically weeded out of the
borrower's custom holdings for any item-level deflected bibs. That won't
count in your 'unfilled' tally. 

When I create local holdings records to deflect specific titles, I put a
note like "Not available for ILL" in the LHR summary. If a borrower is
choosing symbols manually to put in a request, hopefully they'll see
that note and leave our symbol out.

Instead of deleting your holdings, why not do an item ILL deflection in

Blame Glen Beck -- we have had over 100 ILL requests for the 5000 YEAR
LEAP by Skausen which Mr Beck promotes regularly on his radio show.   I
finally decided to delete our holdings on the book in OCLC - we have
enough requests in our own system to keep the book checked out for
several months and the number of "in use on loan" turn-downs was playing
heck with our filled/unfilled ILL ratio.

Can anyone out there explain the sudden popularity of a book called
American Progressivism : a reader / edited by Ronald J. Pestritto and
William J. Atto (Lexington Books, 2008)??  I've had 22 requests for it
in the last 9 days.  Unfortunately, we can't loan it because our copy is
at the bindery right now.

I'm thinking someone, somewhere must have given it a good review (Oprah?
NPR?).

This is just one of those weird / makes you wonder moments in ILL...
