Bethany,
We use this reply, with sometimes a little editing for special situations:
We have been unable to obtain the information requested on the enclosed Interlibrary Loan form. The owning library has responded that the article cannot be found as cited on your request.
If you have additional information that would redirect our search, please indicate so on the enclosed request and return the paperwork to Interlibrary Loan. If you would like assistance in verifying the citation, please contact a librarian at xxx-xxxx.

We are looking for a script to send patrons when their citations are bad and we can not research more. We want to assist them and have them be willing to find the information they need without putting them off to ILL forever (or their students, which some faculty have). Do you have an official script for emailing patrons when cancelling their requests for incomplete citations?
