[ILL-L] new library -- new problem

I think what's happening is that the borrowers are typing the wrong symbol.

This brings up a side question: How are requests for items to which the
requested library's holding symbol is not attached getting through? I
thought that was impossible.

I agree with you that just letting it age out is not a good option.

I think she has three options:
1. Conditional and let the borrower know that it's the wrong OCLC symbol.
2. Choose "No, not owned" and e-mail borrower that it's the wrong OCLC
symbol.
3. Choose "no, not owned" and leave it.

I prefer Option 1 because it's the least work, but some people don't like
conditionals and might prefer Option 2. OTOH, they're the ones who miscopied
the symbol and created the problem, and she's the one who's being helpful,
so go with what's easiest for her.

Option 3 is not good because it makes you look like you don't take the time
to update mistakes when they go back to make a second request and "your"
symbol is still on the list. It also keeps them from using the correct
symbol and possibly getting the request filled.

Just my opinion,

Folks,

I've left Florida and am back in my home state, North Carolina.

The library's OCLC code is UZO - note the upper case "o."

A university in New Zealand is UZ0 - the number "zero." (I think it's
University of Otago.)

We occasionally get requests for materials that UZ0 owns. Our staff person
doesn't not know how to respond to them and so she lets the request age out.
I'm not satisfied with that and would like her to respond quickly.

Can/will anyone advise me how she should respond to this kind of error?

Thanks.
