Yes, April. I believe you are right. But I never was able to remember FRBR until I was told about Ferber.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I believe that "Ferber" is really just the
cataloging concept FRBR:

It's sort of like linking records that are from the same family tree.

Paul,

I think this is a result of what OCLC calls Ferberization, as in Edna
Ferber, as in Oklahoma, as in all of the works that have derived from
it.

Because of Ferberization, you can do one search in on Ferber and
Oklahoma and get all records pertinent to it.

Remember when you had to search separately for different formats?

I will be looking forward to the speculations of others as to why this
occurs.

I use worldcat.org at times to check availability of certain items:
brand new books or maybe-not-yet published journal issues. Sometimes for
items that I suspected are reference items, trying to find libraries
that have the item in the circulating collection.

I've discovered that even when searching on an OCLC number, the
worldcat.org search is giving me library locations for previous
editions.

For example, this morning I searched 171111217, Advanced linear algebra
by Steven Rowan,3rd ed, 2008 for a faculty request. When I looked at the
list of libraries provided, most were for the 1st(1992) and a few for
the 2nd (2005) editions. Not the 3rd 2008 that is 171111217

Anyone know why?
