[ILL-L] a question while passing the time with OCLC still down

I find it easier to deal with overdues if the notice comes in email. I
may be more likely to act on it faster than snail mail and fax.

We send overdues via USPS First Class mail and utilize the "Recall" and
"Overdue" options in WRS. While we don't have any confirmation of
receipt, we've also never had a problem with someone 'not knowing' that
a book was
overdue.

I've always sent lending overdues by fax and snail mail (to those with
no fax number). Do you find you get better response emailing to the
borrowing institution? I've emailed a few over the past year with mixed
success. Several were clearly ignored, but it's likely that patron would
have ignored fax and mail, too. At least with the fax I have the
confirmation that it truly went through, and can cite that if need be
if/when we get to the lost book billing stage. Certainly with ILLiad
(just brought lending live July 1) it will be easier to email than
previously, but I still won't have any confirmation of receipt.

Any & all opinions welcome.
