[ILL-L] ? Very Low Number of New Lending Requests
(especiallyjournals) ?

In March, I made this switch to request from Odyssey delivers first for copy requests and went with trusted sender. These steps cut our article turnaround by more than a day.
We had 522 lending requests from July 1-Sept 8 2007 and 786 for the same time this year. About a 50% increase, despite being closed 5 days last week for Hurricane Gustav.
Main contributing fqactor: We joined the NN/LM in April and started lending on Docline in June. We get between 4 to 8 requests daily from Docline.
After a 52% increase in borrowing last year, primarily because of implementing Odyssey electronic delivery, this increase in lending makes LHA a net lending again.

Many libraries are beginning to select Odyssey senders first in their Custom Holdings as well. We're fairly certain that part of our drop in journals requests is due to this, though we're hoping to enable Odyssey sending in the very near future!

Many libraries join Rapid ILL system and articles are submitted via that route. This could also be a contributing factor for low number of lending journal requests.

We've noticed lower-than-usual numbers as well. We've been thinking that it was in part due to the rise in full-text databases.

Joe,
We have been experiencing the same here at SAC. We usually get a lot
more this time of year.

Hi,
we've a had a suspiciously low number of new journal requests
coming through in the past two weeks.
This seems strange to me, as this is usually the beginning of one of our
"peak seasons" for lending.
If anyone has been experiencing the same problem lately, or has any idea
why this may be, please let me know.
Thank You,
~Joe
