[ILL-L] I thought I'd heard everything!

A patron who was borrowing and then selling library materials was recently arrested in Lansing. He had to pay hundreds in replacement fees to us and thousands to Michigan State University for materials he'd taken. They found a study carrel at MSU where he had been removing spine labels and excising barcoded pages from their materials. He actually left the debris in the library! If we borrowed anything for him through ILL before he had billed local loans I suspect he would have had no compunction about selling those matarials too.

In my fifteen years with ILL I thought I'd heard everything - but this
takes the cake!

A woman called us and said she bought a book from a seller on Amazon and it
still had our stamp and barcode! We had sent that out on ILL in April and
never got it back. The online bookseller said they buy all their books -
so who knows what happened. The person who borrowed it sold it? The good
news is the woman bought it volunteered to send it back us; she is pursuing
a refund from Amazon.
