If it is taking a long time for articles scan (generate images) then that
might be a scanner problem. You should check the scanner manufacturer's
website and make sure you have the most up to date driver and software for
your scanner.
If it is taking a long time for articles to send (e-mail/FTP/whatever) then
you need to check the settings on your e-mail program and within your
firewall. You'll probably want to contact your institution's technical
support so that they can make sure that everything is set the way it should
be. They'll probably want you to be able to demonstrate the problem and
know what dates/times it occurred at. Sometimes super slow sending can be
because of a clogged up network (which could be anything from high user
volume to some student doing illegal file transfers...).

Subject: [ILL-L] scanning getting really slow
We are experiencing a variety of problems with our electronic delivery.
We scan via Ariel, Odyssey, and Adobe acrobat, using a Minolta 5000C
scanner.
We discovered on Sept 30 that almost none of the emails with attached were
being sent, and many of the ariel deliveries also.
We have tried lots of diagnoses and checking. We stopped using Ariel patron
email. We updated the twain driver. Files are now going through, but it is
taking 30-45 minutes per article.
As a one-scanner office, that is creating a problem. I have a couple of
grants out, but those wouldn't provide us with another until 2009.
We are trying every angle, so my question:
Are there files in Ariel or the PS5000C that should be checked?
Thanks for any suggestions.
