[ILL-L] NO for Electronic books

Arthur,

We have our Direct Request Profile set to reject e-formats, but some records come through anyway. I am told this is due to some abnormality in the OCLC cataloging for those records.

This might be an explanation for some of those requests.

I've been puzzled why we get so many ILL requests for our e-books, when
not only do the WorldCat records say they're e-books, but they have a
different icon; and in every case there are free libraries that have the
book in hard copy. We've been e-mailing the libraries, giving them the
OCLC accession number for the hard copies. Originally I thought
(probably unfairly) it must be student workers or patrons doing the
requesting. Does anyone know what causes this?

Subject: [ILL-L] NO for Electronic books

In the last few months, I've been declining ILL requests for "Type:
Internet Resource, Computer File" noted as [electronic resource] in the
library catalog more and more than before. Is there a way to make them
in a way as not to be ILL since libraries can clearly see they are
online holdings as e-book?

Thanks
Mike.
