I would cancel the request with the reason, title not owned. I would then send an email to the requesting library and ask them to change it in their records if necessary. But, I would love to hear what others would do.

As a borrower, I would definitely recommend a conditional. We don't make
mistakes like that because we're lazy. Maybe in a hurry, and it's very
hard to tell one from the other. To just say no and not fix a problem
for a patron kind of goes against what we're here for - to share
information...

It's pretty easy to have a canned response in a template somewhere.
Word, e-mail template, notepad document on the desktop, whatever. Paste
the response into the conditional, and if you start to recognize the
same borrower making the mistake, send them an e-mail directly. Once
it's pointed out, though, I'd bet people would be more aware of it and
not make the same switch. Other lenders will be in the same boat as you
are, it would indirectly help them.

Sounds like something that will happen pretty often, so find the best
and fastest way to get material into the hands.

Rich

We, too, have a library with a symbol very like ours. We conditional,
saying we do not own and suggesting they try the other library. Usually
works but we do get libraries that accept our condition!

Dear Colleagues,

The University of Georgia (GUA) will change its lending fees effective October 13 (Columbus Day here in the U.S.). This is the first increase in many years. The new rates are:

US not-for-profit: $15 for 1-5 volumes/reels, 1-40 pages, etc. Additional $10 for RUSH.

US for-profit: $15 for 1-5 volumes/reels, 1-40 pages, etc.
Additional $30.00 for RUSH.

All international fees: $20.00. 1-5 volumes/reels, 1-40 pages, etc. Additional $10.00 for RUSH.

We will continue to NOT charge pre-existing agreements:
GOLD
GIL
ASERL
Pre-agreed upon ARLs
SOLINE loans (we will continue to charge for SOLINE copies)

Unfortunately we cannot enter into any new reciprocal no-charge agreements at this time.

We continue to prefer IFM (or IFLA vouchers from overseas libraries). We will be changing the information on both the OCLC ILL Policies Directory and the UGA Libraries Website (http://www.libs.uga.edu/ill/nonuga.html) soon.

Greetings all,

As you know Washington University (WTU) is hosting the VP debate
tomorrow, October 2nd.

Due to limited access and parking, we will have a staff shortage.

We will neither receive nor send items, as there will be no incoming or
outgoing mail.

Our status on WorldCat will be lower case (i.e. non-supplier) for
tomorrow only.

Thanks for your understanding.

Dear fellow ILL-ers,

I was wondering if anyone is using or has tried the USPS
Shipping Assistant
(http://www.usps.com/shippingassistant/welcome.htm?from=CNS
<http://www.usps.com/shippingassistant/welcome.htm?from=CNS&page=shippingass
istant> &page=shippingassistant) for printing shipping labels? My
assistants really enjoy being able to print shipping labels and book straps
directly through WorldCat as we don't have ILLIAD or CLIO, but my
understanding is the Shipping Assistant would also provide information for
delivery confirmation (for a modest fee of course). I'm wondering if anyone
else has used this and can give any feedback on using it. I'm particularly
interested in the delivery confirmation aspect as I have a bill for a never
received book we returned to another library and just received word that two
books sent to another library never arrived. L

Good Afternoon,

I have another article that I am having trouble with. The article
"Aggressive interactions among melanistic males of the red...", by Lardie,
comes from the Bulletin of the Oklahoma Herpetological Society, Vol 8,

Can anyone supply? We are willing to pay!

If one is selecting the wrong code by mistake, it's not helpful to
the borrower to be told "not owned." Telling them that you might
want to try UZ0 (spelling out zero might help) is MUCH more
helpful. I've occasionally gotten the "not owned" response when that
library is the ONLY one that owns it, and it always baffles me. If
it's lost, then it'd be better to take your holding off the bib
record. But that's a different matter. :)

I think a condition would be most helpful in this case. But that's just me!

We get this all the time - our code is LUP, and Los Angeles Public
Library is LPU. I just conditional back with a note saying "I
believe you mean to ask for this from LPU - we don't own it!"

I have a requester who wants a copy of:

Intel Triton sets standard for Pentium Chip sets
Computergram International, Feb 3, 1995, n 2595, pp N/A
Cover/Title Page
Table of Contents

and they want it from the paper version only. I've tried multiple
libraries on OCLC; however, everyone only has this in electronic
format. Does anyone have this in paper that they can provide on a
rush basis? I can pay up to $30IFM and I can submit over OCLC, via
Fax, web forms, email...

Thanks so much!

Take care,

Robyn

I guess I should have qualified my response..I always would look at the
lending string to see where we stood. If we were the only one listed or at
the end, I would conditional the response similar to what Julia said. I have
just had some bad luck with conditionals where the other library is confused
and says yes. Then what? Back to where we started. The bottom line is that
we aren't going to fill it because we don't own it. I guess we are all
trying to achieve the same thing...quality work in a short amount of time.
Thankfully, we don't have a confusing symbol.

I'm having difficulty finding anyone to loan (the owning libraries only have it on microfiche and only one copy, totally understandable), or purchase from, a copy of the following:

Title: Shaking up the world : North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and the Black student movement, 1960-1969 /

Any help would be appreciated.

Would someone who owns the Hispanic American Periodicals Index in copy,
check to see if there is an ISSN for the title Agenda?

I have not been able to locate it on my own.

Thanks.

Does anyone have access to this publication? I tried to request it
through OCLC, but it has come back unfilled twice. I am looking for an
article from the September 19th issue titled, "Advocates sue over secret
treaty on IP". We are LVIS, but I am willing to pay if someone can fax
or email it to me.

Pardon the cross-posting, but I'm hoping to get this out there as broadly as possible. This is just a note to let everyone know that our decade-old ARIEL machine has bitten the dust, and we won't be back in business until next week sometime.

I use USPS delivery confirmation (.75 additional charge) with library rate

for rarer and more valuable materials, and being able to track your package online

and know that it has been delivered is cheap peace of mind.

Unconfirmed, but one might hope that postal employees might be a bit more careful/

prompt with a tracked package. Recently, a package went from here in upstate NY to

Stanford CA in 2 days. Only once was a package apparently never scanned, but

the lender completed the request, so it got there.

Dear fellow ILL-ers,

I was wondering if anyone is using or has tried the USPS Shipping Assistant (http://www.usps.com/shippingassistant/welcome.htm?from=CNS&page=shippingassistant) for printing shipping labels? My assistants really enjoy being able to print shipping labels and book straps directly through WorldCat as we don't have ILLIAD or CLIO, but my understanding is the Shipping Assistant would also provide information for delivery confirmation (for a modest fee of course). I'm wondering if anyone else has used this and can give any feedback on using it. I'm particularly interested in the delivery confirmation aspect as I have a bill for a never received book we returned to another library and just received word that two books sent to another library never arrived. :-(

Leslie
