Subject: [ILL-L] Fare thee well, ILL...
Dear friends and colleagues (and I'm lucky to call some of you my
friends!),
Like Brian Stamper and Sharon Campbell before me, I am moving on from
Interlibrary Loan. I'm not retiring (too young for that), but rather, I
am undertaking a major career change. After 23 years of ILL, it's time
for a change. Lo, those many years ago when dinosaurs wandered the
earth and I started out as a student in ILL, we still used 3 part carbon
ALA forms, and Passport was in its infancy. How times have changed! I
can honestly say I did not set out to have a career in Interlibrary
Loan, like many of you, I'm sure. I fell into it by working as a
student, then found my oh-so-useful BA in psychology didn't quite get me
in the job I hoped for. So here I am, 3 universities and lots of gray
hair later. :-)
I wanted to thank EVERYone on this list who made my days more pleasant
and who came to my rescue for many a stumper (Cristi, Arthur and
Jennifer in particular!). Many of our faculty here think I rock, only
because lenders out there made me look so good. So I thank you.
I will be focusing on my garden consulting business, as well as farming
full time on our small acreage. The bees and chickens will take more of
my time than whiny undergrads who don't understand why they can't have
their stuff NOW, but I will still miss some of the things that entail
our daily lives in resource sharing.
I'll still bug some of you on email, since I like to do that, but it
probably won't be ILL related. My last day here at HSU is November
26th, and my intrepid colleague will be filling in for me, so CHU may go
lower case until my replacement is hired (hopefully sooner rather than
later!). Please be kind to her - even though we're a smaller operation
(total requests around 20k for both borrowing and lending), it's a lot
for one person to manage.
And who knows, maybe some day you'll see me again after I've gotten the
farming bug out of my system (or my body parts start falling off.
Whichever comes first).
Fond regards,
Julia
