U may not b familiar with "Virtual Dave" of Syracuse. I discovered
him last week when
Poul Erlandsen of Denmark posted a link to the IFLA newsletter in
which a recent IFLA
meeting in Boston was referenced. Erlandsen made a home mailing
presentation and
David Lankes talked about philosophical matters relating to
librarianship.

Lankes theme is knowledge building in libraries and how it occurs. He
says mainly
orally which I find refreshing and astute. In ILL we r generally so
busy moving books
that we have little time to talk to our readers. I lose less and
things go smoother
when I can communicate with my readers or their reps.

Here's a link to "Virtual Dave" where his recent presentations are
recorded
http://quartz.syr.edu/rdlankes/blog/?p=597

Note the top one is a story from OCLC and the Univ. of Washington
Library
School which plans to create a better search engine with us in mind.
