[ILL-L] ILL Code provision

There's nothing in the code that says if an item is non-circ at your
location, you can't interlibrary loan from another library. However, in
the spirit of interlibrary loan, I'd offer in-house use; that usually
satisfies our customers. However, if I had a patron that presented a
good reason why that wouldn't work out, or they wanted to use a heavily
used non-circ item for longer than a few days, I'd consider interlibrary
loan.
What if you had an item that was fragile to the point that handling is a
bad idea? That doesn't mean that another library may not have a copy
that they can circulate.

My understanding was that requesting items that you own is discouraged
but not expressly disallowed. We've had several discussions about it on
here and the consensus is usually that we will borrow items for patrons
who need a different format (large print, print vs. e-book, etc.) or if
our item is checked out. Here at VMB, an academic library, we won't
request anything that we hold in reference or that we own but is checked
out.

Hi folks,
We are having issues with our customers wanting to ILL items we own but
are noncirc (local history/genealogy room items).
I had been told that this is forbidden by the ALA ILL code but i'll be
damned if I can find this in any link to the code I've explored.
If some kind soul would point out this section I would be most
appreciative.
If it's obvious, name calling is allowed.
Don't suggest trying to work something out with limited circulation from
our Carolina Room, I've already tried that. Felt like I stuck my arm in
a hungry lion's cage or in Heather's case a hungry saber tooth tiger
Thanks,
John
