[ILL-L] ILL Code provision

If we own the item and it is available (i.e. not overdue, lost or at the
bindery), we won't borrow it via interlibrary loan. Not only is it
against the spirit of the ILL code, but we are reimbursed via the state
ILL program. The reimbursement is based on the lending to borrowing
ratio. I would hate to lose those reimbursement funds by borrowing
already-owned items via ILL.

My understanding was that requesting items that you own is discouraged
but not expressly disallowed. We've had several discussions about it on
here and the consensus is usually that we will borrow items for patrons
who need a different format (large print, print vs. e-book, etc.) or if
our item is checked out. Here at VMB, an academic library, we won't
request anything that we hold in reference or that we own but is checked
out.

Subject: [ILL-L] ILL Code provision

Hi folks,

We are having issues with our customers wanting to ILL items we own but
are noncirc (local history/genealogy room items).

I had been told that this is forbidden by the ALA ILL code but i'll be
damned if I can find this in any link to the code I've explored.

If some kind soul would point out this section I would be most
appreciative.

If it's obvious, name calling is allowed.

Don't suggest trying to work something out with limited circulation from
our Carolina Room, I've already tried that. Felt like I stuck my arm in
a hungry lion's cage or in Heather's case a hungry saber tooth tiger

Thanks,

John
