[ILL-L] Does anybody do this?

I like the idea of using your own barcode + ILL + OCLC#. I think that
this would work on the ALEPH GUI & as you say identification would we
simple. Also, it would be easy for sending/running bills.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

We are also on Voyager and our procedure is nearly identical to Peg's.
We
use our own barcode to check out the book. For the title we type ILL
followed by the resource sharing number before the title. This makes
clean-up easy if we forget to delete the record in a timely manner and
makes
it easy for patrons to recognize these books as something different on
their
My Account page. We assign ILL items an item type that is the same as
our
two hour loans so that circulation must pay careful attention to the due
date on the item and so that patrons are fined when books become
overdue.
If anyone would like, I have a handout that explains our procedure I can
pass along.

We're a Voyager library.
I create a brief record and use the barcode on the book in the item
record.
I check the book out to the patron and enter the ILL due date.
>From there the book goes on the ILL shelf and I notify the patron by
email that the item is in.
It's great having the ILL item in the OPAC because then the Circ Desk is
responsible for sending overdue notices and collecting fines :-)
Any questions, feel free to ask :-)

We are also interested in finding a way to link our patrons ILL books
with
their circulation records... We use Voyager--any suggestions?

We also check out ILL materials using our local system, and because we
do
not use an ILL management system, it's really the only way we can handle
things.
We have a pretty savvy system administrator running our ILS, Sirsi
Unicorn.
He has written scripts which automatically create brief title records
and
attach holds to them for the patron using information taken from the
OCLC
request. System-supplied item IDs are used to generate barcodes which we
print on labels along with title, patron name, routing branch, and due
date.
The labels go on our bookstraps.
It all works pretty smoothly.

I am a first time poster:
I was asked by my supervisor whether anyone else is checking out ILL
books
using their local system so the item appears on the patrons record.
That
way the patron doesn't have to go to two places to check what items they
may
have out, which we feel would be more helpful to our patrons, and we
would
probably prefer. Has anyone tried this and/or have been successful with
it?
What kinds of issues are involved? We are using Millennium circ. and
my
ILL software, CLIO, can generate its own barcodes of the ILL no. (....or
have you found it best to just direct the patrons to check their ILLIAD
account? Has their been problems explaining to patrons to go to two
different places?)
Thanks very much in advance for any input you can provide.
