[ILL-L] Do you let your alumni borrow books?

Colleagues:

We allow alumni access to borrowing, interlibrary loans and access to non-restricted databases. This is an excellent promotional resource that has minimal impact on collections and services.

A tricky question is to know " When do libraries ask alumni patrons to validate the accuracy of their patron records?" Do libraries send out e-mail notices to this effect in anticipation to dropping records, wait until an anniversary date, on an annual basis every July 1st, only when requested?

Subject: [ILL-L] Do you let your alumni borrow books?
Hi,
This is a question for academic libraries only. Here we have been grappling with the question of whether to let our alumni borrow our books. I would like to ask what were the policies in other colleges and universities. We fear that, since we don't have any sway over them, we may lose some of our books if we lend them to alumni. If you are lending, do you do so free of charge or in return for a contribution or a fee?

I will be grateful to hear from others.

Thank you,
