[ILL-L] Do you let your alumni borrow books?

Our alumni get cards and can check out two items at a time for three
weeks. Only those who have actually graduated from UGF are considered
alums.

Our Alumni Office frequently alludes to library access as part of the
perk of being an alum. We had to have them change their PR when alums
kept asking for remote access to the databases.

As for getting materials back, any alum with a balance due at the
Business Office cannot get academic or financial transcripts.

Subject: [ILL-L] Do you let your alumni borrow books?

Hi,

This is a question for academic libraries only. Here we have been
grappling with the question of whether to let our alumni borrow our
books. I would like to ask what were the policies in other colleges and
universities. We fear that, since we don't have any sway over them, we
may lose some of our books if we lend them to alumni. If you are
lending, do you do so free of charge or in return for a contribution or
a fee?

I will be grateful to hear from others.

Thank you,

Elisabeth Birnbaum
