Of course, if you really really like mysteries, you may want to consider joining the Dorothy-L listserv.  You'll have more recommendations on hand than you can shake a truckload of sticks at.

The Hennipen Library system in Minneapolis has a great website for recommending books in different genre.

And once you find an author you like, try http://ww2.kdl.org/libcat/WhatsNextNEW.asp to see if he has any series.  
 
What constitutes a "good" mystery is, of course, very subjective.  I personally enjoy James Doss's books.
