The Hennipen Library system in Minneapolis has a great website for recommending books in different genre.

And once you find an author you like, try http://ww2.kdl.org/libcat/WhatsNextNEW.asp to see if he has any series.
What constitutes a "good" mystery is, of course, very subjective. I personally enjoy James Doss's books.
