[ILL-L] Closed Requests Still Retaining Patron Data forAnyoneElse?

I think the privacy issue for patrons is the same as the principle that
cuts the link to the patron when a book is checked back into the
library-it is not so much privacy from library staff as protecting
patrons from future legal snooping and fishing expeditions.
If a subpoena is issued for a patron's records the only records that
would exist would be those in current activity either on interlibrary
loan or in the library circulation system. . Old records would not
exist that connect the patron to the books . Books in current activity
are another matter of course and those files wouldt have be turned over
to legal officers in response to appropriate legal documents. Old
records would not exist and thus could not be submitted to the
authorities.
I do not believe this is mandated anywhere -but I am not sure. However
I know that many librarians feel very strongly about this issue
-especially those who have been asked to turn over patron records.

As the new and still confused member I feel obligated to ask this...
Why do we need to remove patron information from old requests? Is this
mandated somewhere? I understand the privacy issues but it seems that
there are other security measures that would accomplish that (like
locked filing cabinets and computer passwords).

I have noticed, that, too. It appears that the patron info is still
available for about two days after the request closes. Any longer than
that, and the field is gone.
I mentioned it to an OCLC employee at a training session once, and they
seemed mystified by it. If you notice that the patron info is still
available much longer than two days, then I'd recommend reporting it to
OCLC support.

Good evening,
Has anyone else noticed that some of their recently closed
requests are still retaining patron data in OCLC? I have run into two
different instances of this today; both requests were closed within the
past 3 weeks. I thought that OCLC had specifically stated that this
data would be stripped to maintain privacy for our patrons.
Regards,
K.
