[ILL-L] Closed Requests Still Retaining Patron Data forAnyoneElse?

For many institutions, the concern is related to law enforcement
requests. If your library keeps patron data and a law enforcement
request is made for you to surrender that information, then your
patron's privacy is compromised.

if your library does not keep information connecting a patron to the
materials they borrow, then there would be nothing to surrender that
would violate patron privacy.

As the new and still confused member I feel obligated to ask
this... Why do we need to remove patron information from old requests?
Is this mandated somewhere? I understand the privacy issues but it
seems that there are other security measures that would accomplish that
(like locked filing cabinets and computer passwords).

I have noticed, that, too. It appears that the patron info is
still available for about two days after the request closes. Any longer
than that, and the field is gone.
I mentioned it to an OCLC employee at a training session once,
and they seemed mystified by it. If you notice that the patron info is
still available much longer than two days, then I'd recommend reporting
it to OCLC support.

Data for Anyone Else?

		Good evening,

Has anyone else noticed that some of their recently
closed requests are still retaining patron data in OCLC? I have run
into two different instances of this today; both requests were closed
within the past 3 weeks. I thought that OCLC had specifically stated
that this data would be stripped to maintain privacy for our patrons.

		Regards,

		K.
