[ILL-L] How Long Before Asking to Re-send?

We use a combination of the OCLC Message File and monitoring the Request
Sent queue in ILLiad. When a request goes to the RECEIVED? status we will
fax a resend request to the lending library if it's a photocopy, as we've
found that faxes still get more prompt attention. For outstanding loan
requests, we may give some lenders some extra time before contacting them
with a status update, depending on distance, delivery method, and time of
the year - for instance, factoring in for Spring Break (FYI, this is the
week that our students are all gone, so apologies in advance if we're a
little slow!).
The Request Sent queue is also important for us, however, due to the large
portion of non-OCLC requests we have pending at any one given time. These
are a little harder to judge, but generally speaking we'll follow up with
the lender after a month.
Being mindful of the time and effort that goes into doing a resend from
scratch, we'd love to be able to catch missed ARIEL or Odyssey deliveries a
lot sooner (i.e., before the volume gets reshelved), but for now it seems
that the Message File is our most reliable prompt.
