[ILL-L] [ARIE-L] GUA computers this afternoon

Dear Resource Sharing Colleagues,

First of all, I apologize for any cross-postings you may likely receive.

This afternoon the University of Georgia Main Library will be closed from 1-5PM EDT, staff is being sent home, and we have been told to turn ALL computers off.

Therefore, if you try to send any articles to us as borrowers, or if you try to contact us as lenders to obtain articles, we won't be here, articles will bounce, phones will just ring etc.

Everything should be back to normal by 8 AM EDT tomorrow March 14.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but the State Fire Marshall will be testing an alarm system this afternoon and told us that mental concentration by staff or patrons will be nigh on to impossible, as alarms will be going off, strobe lights will be flashing, a voice system will intermittently be heard, etc. until all parts of the system are okayed. As the power will also be going off and on during this time, we have been told to shut all computers off.

Some of you may remember that we had a fire in July 2003 that shut us down for almost two weeks. Since then we have technically been in the building under "temporary occupancy" until cleanup, installation of said system took place, etc. Today's test (if we pass, which we certainly hope we will!) will allow us to finally take back full occupancy and be completely legal in the building.

Wish us luck (and again, we should be back to normal by tomorrow)!

Thanks,
Susan Morris
