[ILL-L] Auto-Updating

The request was almost certainly deleted rather than being updated to 
received.  Some "impatient" borrowers do this when items aren't updated 
to Shipped when they're ready to receive them.  Updating before 
supplying material (especially electronically) is, indeed, the best way 
to prevent this phenomenon.  In the meantime, you can call the library 
that cancelled the request and see if you can reach agreement about 
payment for the article you supplied. -- Margaret Ellingson
